Swiss Association for Applied Linguistics (VALS/ASLA)

The association for applied linguistics in Switzerland, VALS-ASLA, promotes linguistics as the leading science of communication-based culture. It creates a network between linguistics and related disciplines, science and practice, research in Switzerland and in the world.
VALS-ASLA is a forum for exchange and information in the field of applied linguistics. It organises conferences, supports professional contact, encourages cooperation within Switzerland and across the border.
VALS-ASLA promotes the development of applied linguistics in Switzerland, discusses relevant topics of the language situation and language politics in Switzerland and cooperates with other interested circles and organisations. VALS-ASLA was founded on castle Waldegg near Solothurn in 1993 and it is a public corporation. VALS-ASLA is an independent section of SSG (Swiss linguistic association) and it is the Swiss National Association of the Association Internationale de Linguistique Appliquée (AILA).
